The international film company, best known for the 2022 “Unprecedented” docuseries featuring exclusive access to Donald Trump, is now seeking applicants for the newly launched AJH Filmmakers Fund
NEW YORK CITY — On Thursday, Los Angeles-based AJH Films teamed up with DOC NYC, America’s largest documentary film festival, to co-present the annual DOC NYC Pitch Day competition. This year’s event showcased works-in-progress from 12 talented filmmaking teams, selected from a highly competitive pool of more than 150 applicants, who pitched their projects live to a panel of leading industry executives.
After the live pitch event, AJH Films hosted a reception at Soho House New York, where founder and award-winning documentary filmmaker Alex Holder announced the competition winner and celebrated the launch of the AJH Filmmakers Fund, which aims to assist emerging filmmakers through mentorship, infrastructure support, and investment opportunities.
This year’s DOC NYC Pitch Day competition winner was The Hummingbird Paints Fragrant Songs, a powerful documentary feature that chronicles the journey of Sara Flores, an Indigenous artist from the Peruvian Amazon, who breaks into the contemporary art scene in her seventies. The film is directed by Èlia Gasull Balada and produced by Matteo Norzi, Maria Altamirano, Lucas Engel, and Marc Clotet.
In addition to receiving a $5,000 grant awarded by Holder, Balada and her team have been invited to partner with the AJH Filmmakers Fund for the duration of the project’s production.

“We are so grateful for the support that Alex Holder and AJH Films are providing to the industry in a moment where so many things are shifting and it’s becoming more and more challenging to get funding,” said director Èlia Gasull Balada. “We are humbled by the incredible quality and passion behind the other projects presented. We feel deeply honored to have learned from such a talented group of filmmakers and can’t wait to see their films.”
AJH Films specializes in high-profile access documentaries with a compelling socio-political edge. The independent filmmaking company is best known for “Unprecedented” on Discovery+ and Max, a three-part docuseries featuring exclusive access to President Donald Trump during his 2020 re-election campaign and the events leading to January 6, 2021. The series is one of the most watched political documentaries of all time.
The AJH Filmmakers Fund is now seeking applicants at any stage of development or production. Additional details can be found here. To speak to a representative of AJH Films, contact: [email protected].
